MIZU is a cellist and composer known for creating expansive, emotionally rich soundscapes through her distinctive approach to the instrument. Blending layered cello recordings with electronic processing and experimental production techniques, she crafts a sound that is both intimate and otherworldly.
Her two self-produced albums, Forest Scenes and Distant Intervals, have drawn acclaim from outlets such as Pitchfork, Bandcamp Daily, NOWNESS Asia, Stereogum, and The New York Times. She has performed across a range of settings, from her European debut at Rewire Festival to opening for Tim Hecker and appearing at institutions like The Brooklyn Museum and The Noguchi Museum.
MIZU also composed the score for 4 | 2 | 3, a full-length dance piece by Baye & Asa that premiered at The Baryshnikov Arts Center and was featured in The New York Times. Her work continues to explore the intersections of classical training, experimental sound, and contemporary performance.
